Rezovo - Self guided riding
Coast
Bulgaria
A self guided ride in Bulgaria Rezovo, a tiny village with 50 inhabitants is located about 100 km south of the popular beach Burgas. This local and little occupied beach forms the edge of the nature reserve of the Strandza-Sakar Mountains. Rarely visited by humans, the park with its many animal and bird species is unique in Bulgaria. The Black Sea reaches to the horizon and the backcountry impresses with the beauty of almost impenetrable oak forests. Here you can really enjoy riding! You can ride to the magnificent bays that alternate with sections of steep cliffs or to the white rocks in the bay of Kastriche. Enjoy gallops along the banks of the River Rezovo and rides to the oak forest of the Strandzha Mountains (small supplement). Of course you can have a briefing riding tour as well. You ride horses of the east Bulgarian breed from the close stud farm under the attentive instruction of the riding teacher.

The climate in Northern Bulgaria is moderate continental, while the climate in Southern Bulgaria is intermediate continental tending to Mediterranean. The climate in the regions with an altitude of 1900-2000 m above sea level is mountainous and along the Black Sea coast it is maritime. The climate of the seaside regions is milder in the winter and cooler in the summer than the climate of the interior of the country. The average annual temperature is 10,5°C, in winter about 0°C. The lowest temperature - 38,3°C - was measured in 1947.
Marked by four distinct seasons, Bulgaria enjoys a generally favorable climate that is one of the country's best features. Although located at the same latitude as southern New England, Bulgaria's climate is noticeably more temperate. Summers are typically hot and dry, but rarely oppressive, with moderate relative humidity. Winters are cold but not bitterly so. In the south and Black Sea coastal regions, Mediterranean influences temper the harsher continental climate of the interior. The country's half-dozen mountain groups also play a significant part in determining regional variances.
In the capital, Sofia, daytime high temperatures average 82°F/28°C in July-August; 37°F/3°C in January, and reflect the ameliorating effects of nearby Mt. Vitosha. The wettest months are April-May and November in the interior; June, October and December along the coast. In mid-summer, the coast enjoys prodigious sunshine with daytime high air temperatures averaging 83°F/28°C and water temps ranging around 73-77°F/23-25°C.

You have a choice between the rustic-style lodging in Rezovo, if you prefer the solitude of a small fishing village; otherwise you stay in an old Bulgarian framehouse built in 1902 and located in Vassiliko. Vassiliko is a small town with southern liveliness (we’re close to the Turkish border!). Located only 100 meters from the beach, the house has a picturesque patio and the wooden architecture gives you a comfortable feeling from the beginning. There’s place for six guests in three double rooms and the cook of the house will prepare good Bulgarian meals for you. Vassiliko is located at 35 km distance from Rezovo and the stables. A small bus brings you to the stables each day. The more rustic lodging in Rezovo offers very simple double rooms. Two rooms share one bathroom. Located 100 meters from the fishing harbor and the beach you enjoy your meals at the only restaurant of the village. Especially recommended is the Black Sea fish served fresh daily.
