Black Mountains Trail
Wales
Wales
For more than 25 years our partner and his sons have been leading this ride through wonderful mountain landscapes, mysterious bogs, dense forests and clear rivers. In the morning you fetch your horse from the meadow and ride on guided tours on ever-changing routes on 6 days of progressively more challenging trail riding exploring the wild reaches of the Black Mountains. This relatively undiscovered area of high moorland is set between the picturesque Wye and Usk valleys, providing some of the best cross-country riding to be found anywhere in the UK. Each day we take a different route, covering between 8 and 18 miles a day, stopping for lunch at one of the traditional village inns along the way. As with all of our rides, you'll get to experience a range of terrain and pace, and as we return to the farm each evening, you'll also have the chance to try out different horses if you'd like to. Evenings are spent enjoying Maria's splendid home-cooked food, and guests are free to relax around the cosy fire or visit the local pub. On one night during the week, guests eat out at a local inn or restaurant – Abergavenny and the surrounding area is becoming justifiably famous for quality food, and we're able to advise on some great places to eat. Guests arrive on Saturday evening and get to know one another over dinner. Over the course of the week, the rides will increase in distance, speed and challenge, but as always our keyword is flexibility, and our staff are always on hand to ensure your ride is safe, enjoyable and exciting. You'll finish the week a much more confident, relaxed and knowledgeable rider.

Throughout the week guests learn horse sense and necessary skills. These include catching, grooming, tacking up and cleaning of their own individual horse. They also take care of their tack at the end of the rides. Daily routine involves preparing the horses for an 11 o'clock departure. We mount and find that riders are most relaxed after they have ridden all paces on their mounts. Their balance improves and the horses sort out their preferred order. We mostly ride in double file and as we trot into town everything stops for us. Our Cobs are well known and respected throughout Mid- Wales. This trail will put you through your paces over the most varied of terrains. Mountain and moorland tracks, valleys and pasture land, We will take you through some of the most beautiful parts of the Welsh countryside at all paces! Monday to Friday we take different trails each day and lunch at village inns or remote picnic sites high up in the Black Mountains - traveling further and faster each day. You ride up and down steep slopes, cross lofty summits, wade rocky rivers, pass through dense woods and see the whole of wilderness Wales. Our cobs have fast acceleration, perfect handling and automatic survival instinct ... Running on grass and water - they're more environmentally friendly than any machine! At the week's end you will be ready to try another of our longer and more challenging trails but away from base this time!
